Sexual Disorders: Male and Female Types and Products for Management
Sexual disorders have an extremely negative impact on a person’s psycho-emotional state.
Male sexual disorders
Sexual dysfunction in men usually manifests itself in the form of lack of sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, lack of ejaculation, as well as premature ejaculation and pain in the genital organ during erection. A person who does not have regular sexual relationships or has no sexual experience at all, when faced with problems in sexual behavior, often suffers from depression, anxiety disorder and avoids potential partners, thereby reinforcing the course of the disorder.
However, symptoms of sexual disorders do not always indicate the presence of a disease. The failure may be due to temporary factors (fatigue, psychological mood and other reasons). In these cases, symptoms appear rarely. But if disorders happen regularly and bothers a man, then he needs to see a doctor.
The most common types of sexual disorders:
Impotence, erectile dysfunction. ED in men manifests itself as a straightness, hardness and volume of the penis that are not sufficient for normal sexual intercourse. Often the problem occurs against the background of urological diseases, diseases of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, as well as various endocrine disorders.
Еhere are 3 forms of pathology depending on the causes of development.
Psychogenic. It occurs against a background of neuroses, increased anxiety and a number of mental illnesses, and is accompanied by rapid decline or complete absence of sexual arousal.
Organic. The reason for the development of this form of pathology is cardiac and vascular problems: hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart failure, coronary heart disease, inadequate blood supply to the cavernous bodies of the penis, etc., as well as neurological pathologies (including multiple sclerosis) and endocrine disorders. Organic impotence also develops against the background of toxin poisoning, when taking a number of medications.
Mixed. This form of pathology occurs with psychological and organic problems.
To cope with Erectile Dysfunction, patients may be prescribed:
- Hormonal drugs and testosterone boosters. They have proven effective against endocrine causes of impotence. The most effective testosterone supplements are: Zinc — a mineral that your body needs in order to function properly. Low testosterone has been connected to zinc insufficiency; DHEA — a special dehydroepiandrosterone hormone, that helps in testosterone production.
- Vasodilators. They are used in the form of both tablets and injections directly into the penis.
- PDE-5 inhibitors. These drugs are erection stimulants. The most popular stimulants are Generic Viagra (Sildenafil), Generic Levitra (Vardenafil), Generic Cialis (Tadalafil). All these drugs have the same mechanism of action, but different active components and duration of action as well as the severity of side effects.
Decreased libido. The condition is a disorder of male sexual function in which sexual desire becomes weak or absent. Often the problem occurs against the background of urological diseases, as well as hormonal disorders. To cope with the problem of decreased libido, it’s important to eliminate the initial health problem.
Ejaculation disorders. A condition in which ejaculation occurs too quickly or, on the contrary, with a delay, is accompanied by pain and disturbances in orgasm (delayed, absent). The cause of this phenomenon is often diseases of the male genital organs, as well as hormonal disorders. In most cases, medicines of the dapoxetine group are needed. Dapoxetine is a selective inhibitor that helps to prolong the time of sexual intercourse, avoid premature evacuation and enhance the sensations of orgasm.
Delayed ejaculation is not a separate kind of disease, it’s usually a consequence of other health problems. But still, might include taking a medication. There are no medications that have been authorized expressly to treat postponed ejaculation. The majority of medications used to treat other illnesses. Sometimes, the following drugs can be used: Amantadine, a Parkinson’s medication, Buspirone, an anti-anxiety medication, Cyproheptadine, an allergy medication.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Adenoma is a benign growth of prostate tissue. An enlarged prostate begins to expand the urinary tract, making urination difficult, as well as affecting the erectile function, making the rigidity of the penis worse. If symptoms of Benign prostatic hyperplasia are severe, drug treatment may be prescribed.
- Alpha-1 adrenergic blockers. For example, Generic Uroxatral (Alfuzosin), Doxazosin, Terazosin, Prazosin: begin to act within a few days after the first use, can be used for a long time, but do not reduce the volume of the prostate or reach its size.
- 5a-reductase inhibitors. They are prescribed for moderate to severe symptoms, which lead to development of the urinary tract and an increase in prostate volume or increased the development of PSA. the following drugs are usually used: Generic Avodart (Dutasteride), Generic Proscar (Finasteride), Generic Finpecia (Finasteride). The effect of taking these drugs appears only 6–12 months after the start of treatment, therefore, as a rule, they are prescribed long-term or for life. Also, these drugs reduce the volume of the prostate gland by an average of 25–30% and prevent its further growth, which in some cases allows one to avoid surgery.
- Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5 inhibitors). These drugs are prescribed to patients with moderate symptoms. The action of these drugs is aimed at reducing the tone of the muscles of the pelvic organs and improving blood circulation in this area.
- There are other types of drugs for the treatment of prostate adenoma, including herbal drugs. The appropriateness of their use is determined by the attending physician.
Female Sexual Disorders
Sexual disorders in women are a serious and much more common problem than it seems at first glance. After all, it is customary to talk and think more about men’s problems in this area. Indeed, due to their physiology, men are much more vulnerable and dependent on their sexual health. But female sexual dysfunctions also seriously affect the quality of life. The following types of sexual disorders in women are distinguished:
Arousal disorder. It can be felt on both a psychological and somatic level. A woman constantly or periodically feels unable to achieve and/or maintain sexual arousal. This type of disorder can be caused by insufficient blood supply to the genitals, etc. Occurs in 10–20% of patients. Flibanserin and Bremelanotide are used to treat sexual dysfunction in women. The mechanism of action is the same as that of male stimulants, but these drugs are suitable only for females. Flibanserin and Bremelanotide could also be used for women in menopause. Female Cialis (Tadalafil) is used to treat female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD) and female sexual dysfunction.
Orgasm disorder. Occurs in 10–15% of women. It is felt as a constant or periodic absence, delay or complete impossibility of achieving sexual satisfaction, despite the presence of adequate sexual stimulation and arousal. There is primary (arising from the beginning of sexual activity) and secondary (developing as a result of surgery, injury or hormonal imbalance). Anorgasmia can also occur as a consequence of emotional trauma or sexual abuse. Usually, psychological therapy is needed to cope with anorgasmia, but, in some cases, antidepressants and sedatives are prescribed.
Desire disorder. It is felt as a constant/periodic absence, a lack of sexual fantasies and thoughts, and a lack of receptivity to sexual activity. Occurs in approximately 30% of sexually active women. It can even be felt by a woman as an aversion to sexual activity (a constant or periodic desire to prevent sexual contact). The roots of this problem are most often in psychological or physical (sexual abuse) trauma, often childhood. In some cases, hormonal therapy is needed. Generic Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) is able to cause ovulation in women and increases estrogen level, that makes sexual desire stronger. Generic Estrace (Estradiol) improves such menopause symptoms as hot flashes, and vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation, as well as improves sexual desire and arousal. Generic Prometrium (Progesterone) is used to replace natural progesterone. When your body isn’t producing enough progesterone, this drug is used.
Pain disorders. In the sexual sphere, this is, first of all, dyspareunia — constant or periodic pain in the genitals during sexual intercourse. It has both psychological and purely physiological reasons. For example, dyspareunia can result from vestibulitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the vaginal vestibule), vaginal atrophy or vaginal infection. To treat pain disorders different types of medications could be used, depending on the etymology of disease. For example, to cope with infection, Generic Diflucan (Fluconazole) is prescribed. It’s is anti-fungal antibiotic used against candidiasis of different organs including the genital area.
