Avodart Generic (Dutasteride)
Avodart has Dutasteride active component that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in male body. DHT hormone contributes to development of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Avodart is prescribed for men with enlarged prostate and it also improves urinary flow. Besides, it can reduce the necessity of prostate surgery in the future.
How to use Avodart
Use Avodart as was recommended by doctor – do not exceed or reduce the amount. Swallow the capsule and drink it up by a glass of water. Do not chew or crush it, because it may irritate your mouth or lips. Avodart medication can be used regardless of meal time.
To define that medication really helps, you should go through regular medical tests and visit your doctor. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) will be also checked to make sure that you don’t have prostate cancer.
Side effects of Avodart
If you have any signs of allergy to Avodart (swelling of tongue, lips or face, problems breathing, or hives), seek for immediate medical help.
Some other side effects may be the following:
- Low sex drive.
- Less amount of semen released during ejaculation.
- Impotence.
- Enlargement or tenderness in breast.
Warnings and Cautions
Since Dutasteride can increase the risk of prostate cancer, a person taking it should go through regular medical tests to prevent other conditions from developing. If you had allergic reaction to Avodart or some Finasteride medications, inform your doctor about it.
Avodart should not be used by women or children. The components can be absorbed through the skin, so do not let children handle the leaking or damaged capsules. Otherwise, wash hands with soap and water. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant are also not recommended to be exposed to Dutasteride.
If you take Avodart or were taking it less than six months ago, do not donate blood. Its components can be carried in a blood of a pregnant woman receiving transfusion and cause birth defects.
